The Perfume Nationalist

Jan 28, 2022

Five friends meet at the gold twin towers of Campbell Center on a January day to tour Southfork Ranch, the place where it all happened (1978-1991, 2012-2014). A twenty-five-year-old soap opera fan from Arlington has dressed as Lucy Ewing for the occasion. George Stevens' Giant (1956) and Douglas Sirk's Written on the Wind (1956) loom as foundational texts. Horses. Unguents, essences are smelled at Northpark Center, the perfectly preserved 1965 art-mall, and The Scent Room, an elevated perfumery. Beef Wellington and escargot at The Old Warsaw, a restaurant described as "still at it, even though the rest of the world has moved on." Neandertal Dark is unwrapped.
Headphones are recommended.
